At just fifteen, Scarlett Samuels pulled off a performance that most riders only dream about. On May 16th, she rode Imperial Equine’s Torres to the victory in the $100,000 Governors Cup before a packed crowd at an exciting equitation event.
This class was one of the most anticipated of the season, featuring twenty-two top junior riders tackling a tough 3’6” track designed by Alan Wade. The competition tested riders on their precision and style, all while keeping their cool under pressure. But Samuels rose to the occasion. She earned the highest first-round score of the day with a 90 and came back for the second round, delivering another impressive performance with a score of 87, bringing her total to 177.
After the win, Samuels shared how special the moment felt. Competing in a big arena right before Devon was an amazing opportunity, and even though she felt nervous going into the second round, she trusted herself and Torres. And they delivered when it mattered most.
The Governor’s Cup was a big deal for junior equitation riders as it offers an impressive $50,000 in scholarships for the top rider.
