Canadian Olympian Mario Deslauriers took a big victory in the CSI5* Grand Prix at Spruce Meadows, in Calgary, Alberta, on June 8, 2025. Aboard nine-year-old S&L Quatro van de Meerputhoeve, Deslauriers claimed the top spot in the $500,000 Duncan Ross Grand Prix. Deslaursiers has had “Quatro” since the gelding was six years old. Out of 25 combinations, only six made it to the jump-off, and Deslauriers laid down a speedy and clean second around to seal the win. Fellow Canadian Kara Chad took second place, and Ireland’s Conor Swail claimed third to round out the podium. At 60 years old, Deslauriers proved that he still has it. He’s been competing at Spruce Meadows since he was 14, claiming that “Spruce” has the best facility in the world.
